Subject: Bill 109
4 September 2013
Please vote against Bill 109. While its intentions are good, it's reasoning is not based on verifiable
scientific fact. Thus far, there are no proven claims of harm to human life from GMO products; there
are federal laws that protect us from harmful foods. We can better preserve Hawaii's biodiversity by
preventing invasive species from coming in and becoming established. The same holds true for
protecting honey bees, which although are also an alien species, are necessary for farm produciton; the
parasites responsible for much of the honey bee decline here are recent imports. The County of Hawaii
does not have the financial ability to adequately and fairly test crops to determine if they are of
transgenic nature. Please do something positive for the agricultural community on this island instead
placing further restrictions on their ability to provide us with sustainable food crops.
Sincerely,
Joanne Lichty
