Subject: Tracking / bill 129
Dear council members
- You must realize I am writing to oppose the legalization of fracking in Hawaii. In my recent visit to the "
mainland", the disregard for the natural environment became clearly more evident in areas where community
leadership is less educated, and therefore less prosperous, more concerned with short term economic
benefits. It's ugly.
In other, more prosperous, and generally more educated and informed areas, community leadership was more
closely involved with both educating and representing their constituents,
The people I met in those areas are appalled that we would even consider allowing (racking, or that the
geothermal experiment is so easily moved through permitting guidelines, and that those of us fortunate enough
to live in this beautiful place are so ignorant as to continue destroying it with short-view development.
We are being encouraged to see ourselves and our island home as a model to break away from conventional
:tnd unsustainable infrastructure practices, and work towards creative solutions instead. I believe we have
enough creative intelligence here to drive that vision, even though it might not be embodied in this
council. Please, open your minds and hearts to the truth of that and step around the current " business as usual"
paradigm to find something better.
Please pass bill 129.
Sincerely.
