SUBJECT: GLASS RECYCLING AND DIVERSION PROGRAM
Item No. 3 of your February 1, 1999, letter requests that the Department estimates the amount of
glass remaining on the ground where the stockpiles of chipped glass were previously stored.
Based on our field measurements, we estimate that a total of 162 tons of chipped glass remains on
the ground at these sites. Please note that our estimate does not include all the other remaining
areas, for the reasons cited in your letter.
The above estimate assumes a 6-inch average thickness and is the total estimated tonnage at both
the Auwae Street and Railroad Avenue sites. A conversion factor of 1.2 tons per cubic yard of
chipped glass was utilized in our computations in arriving at the estimated tonnage.
