SUBJECT: Draft Resolution authorizing the Closure of a Roadway Access from the
Old Mamalahoa Highway to the Hawaii Belt Road at Papaaloa, North Hilo,
Hawaii, TMK (3)3-5-003(POR)
The North Hilo Community Council, at its General Membership meeting held on
December 15, 1998, supports this resolution as proposed above.
We do, however, have concern of the wording of the resolution in the "NOW,
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED" and "BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED" sections of
the resolution as they refer to "road closures" where we believe the wording should be
"roadway access closures".
It is important to note that the community has no objection to the closure of the access to
the Old Mamalahoa Highway from the Hawaii Belt Road for the reasons noted in the
resolution, but it is equally important to the community that the Old Mamalahoa Highway
remain open and maintained by the County as access to property in that area.
