Your Committee on Public Works to which was referred Resolution
li 'No . 498-88 , reports as follows :
The purpose of Resolution No . 498-88 is to urge the State Department
of Health to organize and implement a strong public education program
on the generation, handling and proper disposal of hazardous wastes
and to establish a permanent regularly scheduled Household Hazardous
Waste Collection program throughout the State .
Your Committee heard the Chief Engineer testify that he has no
problem with the resolution and that in past Department of Health
collection programs , the State shipped the household hazardous wastes
out of state to a- hazardous waste landfill site .
Your Committee finds that public education on hazardous waste is in
the public interest . Your Committee further finds that a regularly
scheduled household hazardous waste collection program by the State
Department of Health would minimize the future effects of household
hazardous waste on the County 's water supply and environment .
Your Committee concurred with the Chairwoman ' s recommendation to
approve Resolution No . 498-88 .
Your Committee on Public Works is in accord with the purpose of
Resolution No . 498-88 and recommends its adoption by the County
