Your Committee on Public Works to which was referred Communication
'Your
1776 and its attached Bill No . 625 , reports as follows:
Bill No . 625 proposes to amend Chapter 24 , Article 10 , Division 5 ,
Section 24-279, Schedule 27 of the Hawaii County Code 1983 , relating
to parking on pavement prohibited at all times , by adding a new
subsection related to South Kohala . The purpose of the bill is to
prohibit parking on the pavement of both sides of Pomaika ' i Place in
Kamuela for the entire length of the street .
Your Committee on Public Works has reviewed Bill No . 625 and
Communication No . 1776 from the Chief Engineer , explaining that the
Department of Public Works is requesting the bill to improve sight
distance , reduce congestion and provide safer ingress and egress
along .Pomaika ' i Place , which is 18 feet wide with narrow shoulders
that cannot accommodate a parked vehicle entirely off the paved
roadway. Communication No . 1776 also notes the following:
1 . Pomaikai ' i Place serves a mixed land use zoning consisting of
single family residential (RS-7 . 5 ) , village commercial
(CG-7 . 5 ) and agricultural ( A-la ) districts .
2. The no parking zone was requested by Ms . Bree , a resident of
Pomaika ' i Place .
Your Committee concurred with the Chief Engineer 's recommendation for
a no parking zone on both sides of Pomaika ' i Place .
Your Committee on Public Works is in accord with the intent and
purpose of Bill No . 625 and recommends it psage on first reading
by the County Council . ,?
