Your Committee on Public Works to which was referred Communication
No. 1464 and its attached Bill No. 488, reports as follows:
Bill 488 proposes to amend Chapter 24, Article 10, Section 24-280,
No parking at anytime, Hawaii County Code 1983. The purpose of Bill
488 is to improve sight distances at the intersection of Ponahawai
Street and Ululani Street .
Your Committee on Public Works has reviewed Bill 488 and
Communication No. 1464 and understands that in response to the Police
Department ' s concern regarding restricted visibility for motorists
entering Ponahawai Street from Ululani Street , the Department of
Public Works proposes to increase sight distances on Ponahawai Street
by increasing the length of the no parking zones . Bill 488 would
result in the loss of five parking spaces but this is not expected to
cause parking problems .
Your Committee heard testimony from the Traffic Division Head that
the Police Department requested the change because of accidents at
the intersection of Ponahawai Street and Ululani Street . He also
noted the increased business activity in the vacinity, for example,
the professional building and a law office .
Your Committee on Public Works recommends passage of Bill No. 488 on
first reading by the County Council .
