Your Committee on Public Works to which was referred Resolution
-No. 384-88, reports as follows:
The purpose of Resolution No. 384-88 is to support the appropriation
of $5 . 3 million in federal funds for improvements to Saddle Road and
urges President Ronald Reagan and Congress to insure the inclusion
of the funds in the 1991 budget .
Your Committee understands that Lt . General Charles W. Bagnal,
Commanding General of the U. S. Army, recently stated that he has
recommended that the federal government spend about $5 . 3 million to
improve 13 miles of Saddle Road within the military reserved
district . These proposed improvements would complement the County ' s
recent improvement project along 10 miles of Saddle Road. Your
Committee understands that the road needs repairs and improvements
and that the road is needed to link East and West Hawaii . A
Committee member expressed his wish to seek federal funding before
1991 and voiced his intent to amend the resolution accordingly on
the floor of the Council .
Your Committee on Public Works is in accord with the purpose of
Resolution No. 384-88 and recommends its adoption by the County
Council .
