Your Committee on Public Works to which was referred Resolution
No . 371-87 , reports as follows:
The purpose of Resolution No . 371-87 is to urge the State to consider
realigning and orienting the roadway at Waiaka Bridge in Waimea . The
hazardous curves in Highway 19 at the approaches to the Waiaka Bridge
need realigning and the bridge should be oriented to the path of
Kawaihae Road . The stopped approach from Highway 250 (Kohala Road )
also needs improving .
Your Committee finds that the State Department of Transportation has
improved, the Waiaka Bridge by adding guardrails and intends to
install a pedestrian and animal footpath soon . The roadway at Waiaka
Bridge is aligned with the center of the fork between Highway 250
(Kohala Road ) and Highway 19 . Highway 19 curves sharply at both
approaches to the bridge .
Your Committee understands that realigning the Waiaka Bridge and
adjacent roadway would lessen the hazards . Your Committee further
finds that improvements to the Highway 250 stop sign are needed.
Your Committee on Public Works is in accord w ' th the purpose of
Resolution No . 371-87 and recommends its adopt • by the County
Council .
