Your Committee on Public Works to which was referred Resolution
No. 342-87 , reports as follows:
The purpose of Resolution No . 342-87 is to propose the formation of a
committee for the purpose of designing and estimating the
construction costs of a permanent finish line for the Bud Light
Ironman Triathlon World Championships on Alii Drive in Kailua-Kona .
Your Committee recognizes that the Bud Light Ironman Triathlon is a
major sporting event which is annually held in Kailua-Kona and that
the County of Hawaii does realize a substantial economic benefit as a
result of this event , directly from participant and spectator
expenditures, and indirectly from its extensive media coverage which
enhances Hawaii ' s popularity as a visitor destination. Your
Committee agrees that the cost and the feasibility of a permanent
finish line to be worthy of investigation .
Your Committee believes that the membership of this proposed
committee should also include a representative from the Kona-Kohala
Chamber of Commerce . Your Committee has amended Resolution 342-87
to reflect this position .
Your Committee on Public Works is in accord with the purpose of
Resolution No. 342-87 , Draft 2 and recommends ' s adoption by the
County Council .
