You know you should vote for GMO prohibition on Hawaii Island! Please vote for Bill 113
and not for any amendments that weaken it, only those that would strengthen it.
It is common knowledge why we all know you should vote for Bill 113 :
1. The overwhelming majority of your constituents have asked you to prohibit GMO from
Hawaii Island and Vote for Bill 113 .
2 . It is the pono thing to do to protect Hawaii Island from the well known negative
impacts of GMO. What has happened on the other Islands from GMO impacts is well
documented. Do we want what has happened on Kauai and Molokai to be duplicated on Hawaii
Island? A vote against Bill 113 is a vote to bring those unwanted GMO practices to Hawaii
Island.
3 . Your constituents trusted you when you campaigned for election and committed to
represent us, the people, the voters, and not the special interests. If you break your
promise and let us down now, any future campaign rhetoric will be not credible. You will
not deserve reelection.
4 . This may be the only time available to you to vote for Bill 113 to protect Hawaii
Island from GMO. We have seen home rule on the GMO issues under attack. GMO prohibition
in place now is better than being prohibited from home rule enaction in the future.
5. A GMO prohibition now can be changed in the future to permit GMO if the negatives of
GMO are addressed. However if GMO should become established on Hawaii Island and then
prohibition is desired, it would be a much more difficult endeavor. Look at what is
happening on Kauai right now.
6. GMO papaya is an ultra controversial crop. Does Hawaii Island want to be known as the
GMO papaya Island. It behooves the papaya industry, papaya farmers, to find an
alternative to growing the ultra controversial crop. Just look at the sign pictured in
the attached photo taken on Oahu last month at a very prominent food chain super market.
Dean Steiner testified that naturally resistant papaya are available. It would benefit us
all including the papaya industry if GMO papaya production ceased on Hawaii Island.
7 . Again, the most important reason for you to vote for Bill 113 is that the overwhelming
majority of your constituents asked you to.
Please represent us as you promised in your election campaign.
I was very disappointed to see that 2 of you voted against Bill 113 .
I wrote both of you individually and I do hope that you support Bill
113 today.
