Aloha mai kakou,
My name is Jacob Kaumuali'i Titcomb. I am a Hawaiian Language major at the University of
Hawaii at Manoa. Even though I am not, nor have been a resident of the county of Hawaii
island I do have a lot of aloha for the island and for the people that live there. I
think it is safe to say that most if not all residents are against GMO. I have many
friends from that island. They are mostly students and also stand against GMO as do their
families. My only goal is to remind you of your kuleana to your constituents and to the
`aina on which we all live. As beautiful as this land is it serves as more than a
pleasure to the eye. I think I can speak for most Kanaka 'Oiwi (Native Hawaiians) when I
say there is a special relationship we have with the land. The `aina has taken care of us
for as far back as can be remembered, and it ' s people have always taken care of it.
Whether you are Hawaiian or not, you live here and have a duty to uphold your kuleana.
There can be no doubt that GMO in the end will ruin our ecosystem, soil, and contaminate
neighboring crops. I humbly implore you to represent your people pono.
