Subject: Support amendments to sunset GMO corn to Bill 113
Aloha Council Members,
Thank you for reading my testimony regarding Bill 113. I work and live on a small organic farm on the
North Shore of Oahu and support my neighbors on Hawaii island in opposing the expansion of GMO
test crops. Organic is the fastest growing market and should be supported in Hawaii in every way
possible. Open air GMO agriculture directly harms the organic farms via genetic contamination and
pesticide contamination.
Please write an amendment to Bill 113 now that will sunset the GMO corn growing now within a year
to two years max. The problem with Bill 113 is that it grandfathers in 350 acres of GMO corn growing
in Pepeekeo, Honomu and Ookala. If allowed to remain this GMO corn will contaminate non-GMO
corn growing anywhere the wind blows. Don't cripple organic and non-GMO growers by allowing
open air GMO crops to continue.
Also do not support Councilmember Onishi's 3 amendments that gut the intent of Bill 113:
1. Comm 393.052 Amendment to Bill 113 to exempt GMO research & cultivation by universities
and government agencies, flower/horticulture industry, and allow cultivation of approved GMO
crops/plants.

2. Comm 393.053 Amendment to Bill 113 to exempt GMO papaya from registration.

3. Comm 393.054 This amendment repeats papaya and university/government GMO statements
in both amendments above.

Mahalo for your service to the people of Hawaii to regulate open air GMO crops.
Sincerely,
Angela Breene
