Subject: Bill 113 GMO Prohibition and associated amendments
Aloha Council Members,
I fervently want our island home to be GMO free.
I am particularly concerned about GMO corn. Ilt can negatively affect our
conventional and organic corn.
More than 60 British Columbia regions have become GMO free, many countries are
GMO free. We should follow their example in protecting their citizens including non-
GMO farmers and the environment. We should follow our own example
of prohibiting GMO coffee and taro. Protecting the health of the people and the
aina is paramount. The Precautionary Principle should prevail, government has
a social responsibility to protect the public from exposure to harm.
Please amend Bill 113 GMO Prohibition (Comm 393.62) to ban GMO corn.
Please support Comm 394 formation of Ad Hoc Committee Relating to GE Crops
and Plants,
Please do NOT pass the following three amendments:
Comm 393.052 Amendment to Bill 113 to exempt GMO research & cultivation by
universities and government agencies, flower/horticulture industry, and allow
cultivation of approved GMO crops/plants.
Comm 393.053 Amendment to Bill 113 to exempt GMO papaya from registration.
Comm 393.054 This amendment combines the previous two amendments.
Mahalo for your hard work,
Gail W Jackson
