Rc: AYYUINTMENTS TO C TER COMMISSION
I was most disappointed during m ',observation of the council
proceedings on confirmation of M Marni Herkes.
As the only Caucasian, female, o -SO representative proposed to
the commission, Ms. Herkes repre is (like myself) a very large
body of the population, particularl ~=n her district. I was saddened
by the opposition and insistence ~I~council-persons of North and
South Kona and Ka'u who oppose ::per candidacy.
Were I in Ms. Herkes' position, I uId wonder about the motives
behind [his opposition. 1 have k ~,vn her for more than twenty
years, and know her to be lorthri 1 outspoken, unafraid of
expressing advocacy on behalf of v.~estern side of the island and
very knowledgeable about social, 'Sines and political concerns of
the island and the state,
Above all, I have always known • jni as a fair advocate for the
):NTIRE Bib Island. We need go people to volunteer for the role
she has committed to. Do not se ~ message of negativism.
Than ~ you for considering these ~~menb.
