Testimony Regarding
Bill Number 113 Draft 13
Wednesday, November 6th 2013
Hawaii County Council
November 1, 2013
As an individual, resident of Hawaii Island and a business person I strongly recommend the"deferment"
of Bill Number 113 (Draft 3),"An Ordinance amending Chapter 14 of the Hawaii County Code 1983
(2005 Edition,As Amended) by Adding a New Article Relating to Genetically Engineered Crops and
Plants".
I support informed choices and technological improvement in the area of farm production. This will
uphold community values;quality of life; and further ensure a sustainable and healthy business
environment.
Lastly,we respectfully request that a task force of stakeholders including but not limited to farmers and
experts in the field be convened to research, study and recommend how Hawai'i Island can achieve its
goals of comprehensive agriculture in support of safe food self-sufficiency and food security.
Mahalo for this opportunity to voice my concern on this important matter.
Sincerely,
It
