Subject: Fw: Testimony in support of Bill 113 to ban GMO
TESTIMONY IN SUPPORT OF BILL 113
Aloha Councilmembers of Hawaii County,
My name is Dr Melissa Yee of Honolulu Hawaii. I am a Doctor of Oriental
Medicine and the founder of an organization Seeds of Truth which has been
helping to educate people about GMO for the past 4 years.
As a health care practitioner I am concerned that many of my patients and
friends and family are suffering from the long term consumption of GMO foods
including papaya, soy, corn and oils to cook their food. I have seen first hand
how they have recovered when they removed GMO papaya and foods from their
diet.
How much longer do we have to wait before an official study is done to prove that
GMO is unsafe? We have been experimented on for the past 15 years, and
Americans are appallingly sicker than people living in countries with similar
financial resources and medical technology available for their well being.
Big Island has shown that it is at the forefront when it passes bills to ban fluoride
and GMO. The other islands are sorely remiss because of corporate influence in
the makeup of the councils and legislature. I commend the Hawaii County
Council for having the vision to protect its residents, businesses and environment
through these measures.
Please pass this bill. The exemption for GMO papaya and GMO corn grown by
the dairy is unfortunate and will have long term consequences, but this bill makes
it clear that GMO is not welcome on Hawaii island.
Mahalo for your courageous efforts to protect the people and not the
corporations, as has been shown on the island of Kauai recently.
Respectfully submitted,
Dr Melissa Yee
