Re: Testimony on Bill Number 113 `a
The matter of Bill Number 113 is a highly charged and emotional issue which is
dividing our community. While both sides have their valid points, we respectfully
request and strongly recommend deferral of Bill Number 113 until clearer minds
prevail and a rational and sound decision can be made.
We also respectfully request that during this deferral period, a task force of
stakeholders including and not limited to farmers and experts in the field be convened
to research, study and recommend how Hawai'i Island can achieve its goals of
comprehensive agriculture in support of food self-sufficiency, food safety and food
security.
The task force should also examine the governance relationships between and among
the Federal, State and local governments and the economic and social impacts that
such actions will have on the vast majority of the people.
Again, we respectfully request and recommend that this matter be deferred at this
time.
