Your Committee on Public Works to which was referred
Communication No. '840 and '874, reports as follows :
Communication No. 840 from Mayor Dante K. Carpenter , submits for
Council review and confirmation, the appointment of 9 members to the
newly created 13 member Veterans Advisory Committee. Communication 874
from Mayor Dante Carpenter, submits for Council review and confirmation
the appointment of Mr . Daniel R. Frias to the Veterans Advisory
Committee .
Your Committee has reviewed the appointments and finds that the
nominations are in accordance with the provisions of Ordinance 86-123
which provides for initial staggered appointments and for
representation from designated veterans organizations .
Your Committee on Public Works, recommends that the Council of the
County of Hawaii confirm the appointments to the Veterans Advisory
Committee of Mr . Louis Kaoiwi of the Disabled American Veterans and
Mr. Hersel R. Olson of the Big Island Retired Military Association for
one year term ending December 31, 1987 ; of Mr . William T. Kay, Sr . of
the American Legion for two-year term expiring December 31 , 1988; of
Mr . Daniel R. Frias of the Veterans of the Viet Nam War and
Mr . Marvin A. Watts , Sr . for three-year terms ending December 31 , 1989 ;
of Mr . Lawrence Y. Hirokawa of Club 100, Ms . Veronica M. "Hazel " Leong
and Mr . Jack Y. Ouye for four-year terms expiring December 31 , 1990 ;
and of Mr . Shuzo J. Nakatsu of the 442nd Veterans Association and
Mr . George Yamamoto of the Hilo Interpreter • Club for five-year terms
expiring December 31, 1991.
