Your Committee on Public Works to which was referred
Resolution 225-86 reports as follows .
The purpose of Resolution 225-86 is to authorize the Mayor of the
County of Hawaii to pursue negotiations for the implementation of a
recycling center project for the County of Hawaii .
Your Committee is aware that the disposal of solid waste is a costly
operation in the County of Hawaii and that annually, thousands of
tons of valuable resources are being buried in our landfills . Your
Committee believes that it is possible to recover a large portion of
these valuable resources at a recycling center and thereby reduce the
volume of solid waste which must be buried each year . Your Committee
also believes that such a recycling center will be able to generate a
useable biomass fuel by-product for energy production as well as
create additional employment opportunities in the County .
Your Committee on Public Works concurs with the purpose of
Resolution 225-86 and recommends its adoption • the Council of the
County of Hawaii .
