Your Committee on Public Works to which was referred
-Resolution 224-86 reports as follows .
The purpose of Resolution 224-86 is to urge and request the Hawaii
State Legislature to fund the construction of a signalized
intersection at Makaala Street and Kanoelehua Avenue in Hilo.
Your Committee finds that the intersection of Puainako Street and
Kanoelehua Avenue has become a very congested intersection . As a
solution to minimize this congestion , a second signalized
intersection on Kanoelehua Avenue (State Highway 11 ) at its
intesection with Makaala Street is being proposed. Your Committee
undertands that the Department of Hawaiian Home Lands has already
provided for the design of this intersection . Your Committee also
understands that the Department of Transportation also recognizes
the signalization of the Makaala Street-Kanoelehua Avenue
intersection as one of its capital improvement priorities .
Your Committee on Public Works is very supportive of this project as
a solution to the existing traffic bottleneck and would like the
Hawaii State Legislature to specifically provide for the
construction of this project .
Your Committee on Public Works is in accord with the purpose of
Resolution 224-86 and recommends its adoptio - the County Council.
