Your Committee on Public Works, to which was referred
'Resolution 195-86, reports as follows :
The purpose of Resolution 195-86 is to extend the support of the
County Council to the Honokaa Gateway Sign Committee and their
project to erect "Welcome to Honokaa Town" signs at the entrance to
Honokaa.
Your Committee finds that the Honokaa Gateway Sign Committee is
proposing to construct welcome signs on State Highway 19 . The
proposed signs are simple, attractive ground signs which complements
existing welcome signs at the Hilo Airport and at Kailua-Kona. Your
Committee finds that this type of hospitable greeting to be a very
acceptable introduction to any community.
Your Committee on Public Works has also made inquiry as to the
applicability of the proposed signage to the advertising and sign
provisions of the Hawaii County Code. The planned location for the
signage is State Highway 19 . Your Committee has found that the
proposal is a State jurisdictional matter .
Your Committee on Public Works remains supportive of this Community
project. Your Committee, therefore, recommends that the Council of
the County of Hawaii , extends its support to the Honokaa Gateway
Sign Committee in encouragement of this wort y project.
