RESOLUTION NO. 239 13
A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT
AND FROM THE DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT(S) AND CREDITING SAME TO A
DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT(S) FOR MATERIALS TO ERECT THE POW/MIA
MEMORIAL GARDEN AT THE WEST HAWAII VETERANS CEMETERY.
WHEREAS, the West Hawaii Veterans Cemetery Development and Expansion
Association, Inc. (WHVCDEA), a 501(c)(3) tax exempt non-profit organization consisting of
veterans organizations, individual veterans and non-veterans representing a broad spectrum of
the Hawai`i County community, is building a memorial to honor the United States Prisoners of
War and Missing In Action (POW/MIA) armed services personnel; and
WHEREAS, the POW/MIA Memorial Garden serves to memorialize the United States
POW/MIA since World War II (est. 81,705) that include 79 from Hawaii in the Korean War,
Vietnam and Iraq/Afghanistan conflicts; and
WHEREAS, the West Hawaii Veterans Cemetery has been designated "Shrine Status"
by the Veterans Administration (VA), one of only three State-owned veterans' cemeteries in the
nation to receive that honor; and
WHEREAS, Contingency Relief funds from Council District 8 for $15,000 will be
appropriated to the Department of Parks and Recreation to provide financial assistance for the
construction of said Memorial Garden; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that the
following amount is hereby transferred/appropriated as set forth below:

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall forward a copy of this
resolution to the Director of Parks and Recreation and the Director of Finance and that the
Director of Finance is hereby authorized to make the necessary transfers in accordance with the
terms of the resolution.
