Many of the proposed exploration sites are in Puna. Anywhere that would be drilled would be right next to a subdivision. The proposed new site for geothermal, Kealoha land, is right next to subdivisions and right above the only place residents go to surf and take their families to swim. Accidents happen, which is why Goddard, in his study years ago, said that any geothermal wells should have at least a 10 mile buffer zone. This is not possible in Puna. Do not put our lives and the aina in the balance when there are better ways of generating energy. Solar is the best. Fracking is making people sick all over the mainland, it is polluting their water and air. Iceland is reconsidering adding more geothermal due to problems. People are beginning to see that this is not the way to go on the site of active volcanos where the unexpected should have been expected and rejected. It seems not too coincidental that PGV had a blow out and two days later Kapoho tide pools turned brownish yellow, killing many fish. This has not happened before and as an event, has really not been looked into at all. There has been no scientific study as to what is happening to our waters, our air, and the people who live around this industry despite the many complaints. It is unbelievable that monitoring of the polluting plant is left to itself, with an ok to do that by the lame BOH. I have lived here for many years within two miles of geothermal and have suffered the effects of accidental geothermal emissions. Considering the proximity of communities to the existing geothermal plant, I feel lucky that something worse has not happened. When you are considering the lives of your family, feeling lucky is not all that is needed. I made a decision to live on a 1500 year lava flow. I know Pele could decide to come here at any time and that the choice I made was ok with me. The fact that companies want to get rich by taking risks with our lives and making money from it is something extremely different. Mahalo nui loa for your consideration, Sherry Palmer COMM. r 410/),to 7 Rey. To: ___ Ref. Date 16 2013 10/15/2013
