Re: Resolution Accepting Donation
Enclosed is a resolution accepting a monetary donation of$2,000 from the Kailua-Kona Walmart
Store #2321, 75-1015 Henry Street, Kailua-Kona, Hawaii 96720. This money will be given to
the Hawai`i Fire Department to support fire safety education and Fire Prevention Week.

B. BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION (USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDED):
This donation was given to the Fire Prevention Division to support fire safety education, as well as Fire
Prevention Week. Each year in October the Fire Department focuses on educating the public, primarily
elementary students, on fire safety and prevention. We target this age group due to their higher mortality
statistics in fires. Printed materials and other educational supplies are purchased with this funding each year
to combat this problem. This donation offsets the costs of these important supplies and helps us to reach a
large audience.

RE: Resolution No. 246-13 : A Resolution Authorizing the Acceptance of a Monetary
Donation of$2,000 to the Hawai`i Fire Department to Support Fire Safety Education and
Fire Prevention Week.
Pursuant to Section 2(g) of Rule 4 of the Rules of Procedure of the Council of the County of
Hawai`i, this written request is submitted with my approval that the above-referenced matter be
waived from the Committee on Finance to the full Council for immediate action. In reviewing
this matter, timely approval is crucial. It is therefore advantageous that approval is granted and
the matter be placed onto the next Council agenda for review. However, in the event this request
is denied, for whatever reason, I understand the matter shall be referred to the Committee on
Finance for placement on its future agenda.
