Your Committee on Public Works , to which was referred
Communication 260 from Mr . Walter Yamaguchi , proprietor of the
Kalapana Store and Drive In, reports as follows:
Communication 260 is a sign variance request from the Kalapana Store
and Drive In for the erection of an illuminated sign 30 square feet
in area .
Your committee has received testimony from both the Departments of
Planning and Public Works . The Departments recognize that while the
property may be zoned residential , the business of the Kalapana Store
and Drive In is being allowed under a special use permit . Further ,
comparable businesses in business or industrial districts are allowed
a 32 square foot ground sign . Under these circumstances , they do not
object to the requested variance .
Your Committee on Public Works concurs with the findings and
recommendations of the Departments of Planning and Public Works and
recommends that the Council grant a variance to the Kalapana Store
and Drive In for a 5 ' x6 ' illuminated grounc sign .
