Your Committee on Public Works to which was referred Bill 57
relating to the Electrical Code , reports as follows :
The purpose of Bill 57 is to update this County's Electrical Code by
(1 ) repealing the present provisions based on the 1978 National
Electrical Code and (2) adopting the new provisions based on the
1984 National Electrical Code .
Your Committee finds that the purpose of the Electrical Code is to
reduce the hazards to persons and property from electrical causes .
To accomplish this, the proposed Electrical Code establishes minimum
standards for electrical installations in this County.
Your Committee is aware that generally, the 1984 National Electrical
Code is an improvement over the 1978 National Electrical Code. The
new Code offers more protection to homeowner and public and
facilitates compliance by the electrical contractor . Your Committee
is also aware that the new Code proposes permit fee increases of
approximately 25 percent .
Your Committee on Public Works, concerns with the purpose and intent
of Bill 57 and recommends its adoption by the County of the County
of Hawaii . \
