COU!\LTY COUNCIL County of Hawaii Hawaii County Building Hilo, Hawaii 96720 March 9 , 1981 TO: Councilman Takashi Domingo, Chairman & Members of the Committee on Planning FROM: Councilwoman Helene H. Hale RE: Report on Meeting with Waimea Property Owners For your information, I did meet with a group of property owners in Waimea in the office of former Councilmember Moon Sameshima to discuss their concerns. The following items were broughtup and I hope that we can give them due consideration: 1. The group was all small property owners who felt that some of the restrictions might make it impossible for them to develop their properties. Perhaps they could be assured that the variance procedure or some other means can be found to take care of their concerns. They objected to the 20 ft. height limita- tion and the set back. They feel that a two-story or even a three-story building should be allowed. 2. Parking in back could be a problem. We pointed out that it probably was for safety to prevent backing out into the highway. Perhaps the section can be refined to delineate the problem. Comm. No. /4/. a.,., File No. e, jY OZ") f Ref. They feel that there should not be restrictions on multi-family dwellings in commercial district. Other areas of the County do not have this restriction. 4 . The question was raised that you could build to the property line in front if you have the area in back. Is this true? Under what conditions? 5. They would like to build up to the property line on the sides, with a fire wall, as in other areas. Is this possible for small lots at least? 6. There was a question about the necessity of planting trees. Does this apply to the small property owner as well? The kinds of trees proposed are rather massive with large roots and could pose problems. Would shrubs be allowed? Attached is the list of people who met with us. ; i 7/47,,// - - /% 1 I 3 > 1P(7'J r'rrtrweigrT prw‘PlYltp -7--`cam 1:4,(3 r7I-.27.4K / 41,00 1 1 , Q CO • Y
