Your Committee on Public Works and Parks and Recreation, to which was referred Bill No. 165
reports as follows:
Bill No. 165, transmitted by Public Works Director Warren H. Lee, via Communication No. 556
dated November 27, 2013 amends Chapter 24, Article 10, Division 7, Section 24-291.1,
Schedule 39.1 (two-hour parking meter zones) of the Hawai`i County Code 1983 (2005 Edition,
as amended), by changing the rates to five cents for 15 minutes; 10 cents for 30 minutes; and
25 cents for 75 minutes in the County Building parking lot at the corner of Aupuni Street and
Pauahi Street during regular working hours of the County.
The intent of this amendment is to update the Hawai`i County Code so the meter rates in the
code match the rates posted on the parking meters.
Committee Members Greggor Ilagan and Brenda Ford both expressed concerns about the rate
changes and requested that a representative from the Department of Public Works be present at
the next Council meeting to clarify and explain the rate changes.
Your Committee on Public Works and Parks and Recreation is in accord with the purpose
and intent of Bill No. 165 and recommends it passage on first reading.
