Dote DEC 1 8 2013 12/16/2013 Barbara Bell RR2 Box 3881, Pahoa HI 96778 bbellster @gmail.com 808.937.2573 December 16, 2013 County of Hawaii County Council, Finance Committee 25 Aupuni Street, Hilo, HI 96720 Aloha to all Council members, Re: COUNCIL RESOLUTION 201-13 This letter is to add some history to the discussion for this Council Resolution and ultimately for the purchase of the Vacationland Land Trust properties (previously the Hara family properties) at TMK 3 - 1 - 4 - 002:037 & TMK 3 - 1 - 4 - 002:051) which total -322 acres and lie between Highway 130 (the red road), Kapoho Kai Road, and the Puna coastline. The parcels contain about 4,000 feet of shoreline. I spoke with Lono Lyman, Manager of Kapoho Land and Development and former County Planning Director. He reminded me that the original subdivision maps showed these parcels to be in open space. His recollection was that one parcel was for the subdivision (Vacationland I presume) and the other for the Young Buddhist Association. This lends further credence to the proposal to keep them in open space. This is a timely project, as waiting too long will jeopardize the opportunity we have now for protection of this land and the bordering ocean. Sincerely, 0,A110(00,0toe Barbara Bell
