Aloha to all Council members,
Re: COUNCIL RESOLUTION 201-13
This letter is to add some history to the discussion for this Council Resolution and ultimately for the
purchase of the Vacationland Land Trust properties (previously the Hara family properties) at TMK 3
- 1 - 4 - 002:037 & TMK 3 - 1 - 4 - 002:051) which total -322 acres and lie between Highway 130
(the red road), Kapoho Kai Road, and the Puna coastline. The parcels contain about 4,000 feet of
shoreline.
I spoke with Lono Lyman, Manager of Kapoho Land and Development and former County Planning
Director. He reminded me that the original subdivision maps showed these parcels to be in open
space. His recollection was that one parcel was for the subdivision (Vacationland I presume) and the
other for the Young Buddhist Association. This lends further credence to the proposal to keep them
in open space.
This is a timely project, as waiting too long will jeopardize the opportunity we have now for protection
of this land and the bordering ocean.
Sincerely,
