Subject: Kaipalaoa Landing Beach Park
Aloha to all members of the County Council,
I am very sorry that I can not attend this meeting on Wednesday, December 18th., concerning Bill #156, Draft
2. I am in the retail business and am a sole employee and can not get away due to Christmas sales.
I am strongly in favor of increasing the funding for Kaipalaoa Beach Park in the 2013 Bond Authorization
Bill from $40,000. to $300,000. This amount will allow Malama Kaipalaoa Working Group to finish Hilo's newest
beach park.
Kaipalaoa Landing is a rich historical site. Kaipalaoa is the gateway to Hilo. The lighthouse provides direction
for the seafaring and is the guide to our shores. As a beautiful beach park, it will be an attraction for visitors and
locals. By completing the beach park we will have created more safe recreational areas for families. In addition,
the Mokupapapa will be opening across the street from Kaipalaoa in early 2014. Kaipalaoa will serve as an living
classroom for children and adults from the Mokupapapa. It is our dream to restore Kaipalaoa as the attraction of
Hilo.
