Let us discuss the real issue before us. It all really boils down is the difference of our values The Westerners seems to define wealth in how much money they have, how many house they own and how much money they can make off the land They do not understand us. Only now, after hearing the testimonies, going on site walks, attending many meetings, and hours of research, It has become very clear why the developers think the ala loa does not exist. .The trail is was used as a jeep road,bulldozed during fires, graded and covered with cinder,so therefore; to them there is no trail left, it no longer exist. To us,the people of this land, our wealth in the health and happiness of our family, friends and neighbors. It is measured in the health of our culture and of our 'aina„ which does not mean just land. 'Aina means ALL and EVERYTHING that sustains us. Without healthy 'aina we cannot have healthy people. Not allowing us on the ala loa as the public access destroys our connection to the 'aina. That trail connects us to the history and culture of THIS place. The trail is a part of us, as much as we a part of it. You cannot move it and retain that connection. If this concept could be understood by our Council members,they will then be able to comprehend the significance of the decision they are being asked to make. The decision will determine our ability to maintain our connection to this 'aina. We are All of one community,the community of Hawai'i and have to live amongst each other.We would rather,Thrive in balance" with our neighbors and help them to understand the importance of the place they choose to live .They have not made any attempt to work with us,but when they are willing to learn,we are willing to teach Mahalo for allowing me to share my mana'o and please do NOT accept the easement as proposed by the developers .
