I fully support Bill #113, Prohibition of GMOs for the County of Hawaii. No controlled human trial studies exist on Genetically Modified Organisms. BioTech claims GMO's are "substantially equivalent" to natural plants, but for their patents, GMOs are "substantially transformed". That type of double dealing is unacceptable in Hawaii. The BioTech Ag Companies fail to abide by the "PreCautionary Principle" when bringing their product to market. Our fragile environment and ecosystem require us to be extra vigilant as stewards of the land for future generations. 5 Reasons Why GMOs are a Recipe for Global Famine 1. Patented Seed Farmers growing GMO crr,n are denied then traditional right to seeds for the next year If Nonni)tads suddenly they will be unable to replant. 2.Soli Infertility GMO agriculture is chemical elective.Agrochemical buildup is causing sterility to the soil.Glyphosate herbicide is especially problematic 3.Monocropping/Loss of Biodiversity GMOagncniturels monocropping.75%of seed diversity has already been lost to industrial farming The Irish potato famine was the result of rna'ocroppeng.leodiversity is food security. 4.Terminator Seed Technology This is designed to genetically switch off a plants ability to germinate a second time.Plants unto terminator genes can crass pollinate with natural varieties causing otherwise textile seed to be sterile. 5. Dependency on a centalized food system Anetwork of tome gardens, and small to midsized farms offers far greater food security than a centralized. verbalized system. The bigger they come the harder they fall.Think global, eat beer. GMO Agriculture is the Opposite of Sustainable Please pass Bill #113. Mahalo Peggy McArdle 75-5919 Alii Dr, Apt H3 Kailua Kona, HI 96740 808 397 0122 Sent from my iPod p Comm. No. 3 93, 3 0 e Ref.
