POINDEXTER <br />J YOSHIMOTO <br />0- - G <br />—: r7l <br />.o -- <br />Pursuant to Hawaii Revised Statutes 92 -7(c), notice is hereby given that the meeting of the Committee <br />on Public Safety and Mass Transit scheduled for January 7, 2014 at 3:30 p.m. is canceled. <br />The following item was listed on that agenda: <br />BILLS FOR ORDINANCES <br />Comm. 385: AMENDS CHAPTER 14, GENERAL WELFARE, HAWAII COUNTY CODE 1983 <br />(Bill 109) (2005 EDITION, AS AMENDED), BY ADDING A NEW ARTICLE RELATING TO <br />THE RESTRICTION OF GENETICALLY MODIFIED ORGANISMS <br />From Council Member Brenda J. Ford, dated August 13, 2013. Prohibits the <br />cultivation, development, or use of any genetically modified organism (GMO), or to <br />genetically modify any specific or non - specific parts of an organism's genome. <br />Exempts state or federally licensed medical or agricultural research institutions <br />provided all activity is located in a biosafety level 3 containment facility. Allows <br />those currently engaged in GMO practices to continue for a period of 30 months, <br />provided operations are not increased or expanded, and that those operations be <br />registered with the Department of Environmental Management within 90 days of the <br />effective date of the ordinance with a registration fee of $100 per location per year. <br />Referred to Department of Environmental <br />Management and Environmental <br />Management Commission: September 23, 2013 <br />; and <br />Comm.
