Re: Operating Budget
The State of Hawai`i Department of Transportation Public Affairs - Safe Community Program is
providing additional funding under the Traffic Investigative Services grant, of$70,000 to the
Hawai`i County Police Department's HCPD Traffic Investigation program. The grant funds will
be used to increase the number of officers trained in traffic crash reconstruction and other traffic
crash related courses, to purchase crash data retrieval cables and software and to purchase data
collector and printer station units. In the current fiscal year's budget, $30,000 is appropriated for
this grant.
Enclosed is a resolution authorizing the Mayor to enter into an agreement with the State of
Hawai`i Department of Transportation for this grant. Also enclosed is a bill for an ordinance
amending the Operating Budget by appropriating the additional funds into the Department's
HCPD Traffic Investigation Program account and bringing the total grant appropriation to
$100,000.

B. BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION (USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDED):
The State Department of Transportation Public Affairs-Safe Community Program is providing additional
funds under the Traffic Investigative Services grant to allow Hawaii County Police Department to increase
the number of officers trained in traffic crash reconsturction and other traffic crash related courses in the
amount of$28,700, purchase Crash Data Retrieval Cables and Software in the amount of$9,300 and Data
Collector and Printer station units in the amount of$32,000.
