Please accept this email as my public testimony in support of Bill 156.
Hawaiian Paradise Park, Community Park: $300,000
Site investigation, master planning and preliminary design of a new community park for Puna in the
Hawaiian Paradise Park subdivision.
When I was a kid, I was fortunate enough to always live in bicycle riding distance of an actual park. I
feel this was an important of my childhood and adolescence. Today, entirely too many kids play video
games where they bicycle, skateboard, play football, baseball, etc. If there is no park available to
actually do outdoor activities, then we are almost forcing our kids to have no other option. Please
consider funding of this bill as community parks are vital to our communities.
Pohoiki Swimming Area, Feasibility & initial planning study: $40,000
Feasibility study and preliminary planning to develop a safe swimming area at Pohoiki Beach Park
possibly by dredging out an area along the shoreline.
I've visited this park, and I always see many people attempting to "swim" very near the shoreline with
their keki. If there could be made a safe swimming area in this park, I think that would be a significant
improvement for both safety, and usability of the park. I myself would swim there.
