REPORT OF THE <br /> COMMITTEE ON FINANCE <br /> DATE: January 7, 2014 Re: Comm. No. 580/Res. No. 261-14 <br /> PLACE: Council Chambers <br /> Hilo, Hawai`i <br /> TIME: 2:30 p.m. <br /> Council Chair and Members <br /> Hawai`i County Council <br /> Hilo, Hawai`i 96720 <br /> Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Resolution No. 261-14, reports as follows: <br /> Resolution No. 261-14, transmitted by Finance Director Nancy Crawford via Communication No. 580, <br /> dated December 18, 2013, authorizes the Office of the Mayor to enter into an agreement with the U.S. <br /> Fish and Wildlife Service, pursuant to HRS 46-7, to support wildland and structural firefighting <br /> services within the Big Island National Wildlife refuge complex. <br /> The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) identifies the terms and conditions for firefighting <br /> services provided by the Hawai`i Fire Department and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in the refuge <br /> complex, which includes the Hakalau Forest and Kona Forest National Wildlife Reserves. The MOU <br /> would expire on December 31, 2019. <br /> Fire Chief Darren Rosario appeared before Your Committee for questions. He stated that the U.S. Fish <br /> and Wildlife Service, Big Island National Wildlife Reserve has been a great asset to the fire <br /> department's firefighting efforts off of Mana Road in Mauna Kea. They have provided access to their <br /> water supply as well as their housing complex.
