Subject: Strong Support for Bill 113
My name is Stuart Coleman, and I am a writer, teacher and environmental coordinator with
the Surfrider Foundation. I am writing in strong support of Bill 113 because we need this
kind of legislation to create more transparency and basic regulations of the biotech/GMO
companies who operate like the sugar plantations once did--a powerful monopoly with barely
any oversight and unrestricted use of toxic pesticides, even near schools and communities!
As an environmental non-profit dedicated to protecting our coastal areas, the Surfrider
Foundation' s Hawaii Chapters are concerned about experimental GMO seeds and toxic
pesticides leaching into our streams, groundwater and near-shore waters. Whether the bill
passes this time or not, we will keep on fighting till basic, common-sense regulations are
