Dear Chairman Yoshimoto and Council Members:
It is my pleasure to nominate Dr. Ku Kahakalau to the Hawai'i County Board of Ethics.
Dr. Kahakalau is a 35-year resident of Hawai'i. She is presently the Project Director for
Basic Hawaiian, a program of the Institute for Native Pacific Education and Culture.
Dr. Kahakalau is also the Director of KU-A-KANAKA Indigenous Research Institute and
the owner of Ku I Ka Mana Music Publishing.
Dr. Kahakalau is currently a board member of North Hawaii Educational Research
Center's Heritage Center, the Native Hawaiian Health Care Systems Institutional
Review Board, and the Center for World Indigenous Studies. She states that she is not
affiliated with any political party. If confirmed, she will serve a term to expire on
December 31, 2018.
