No. 629 PLACE: Council Chambers Hilo, Hawai`i TIME: 4:07 p.m. Council Chair and Members Hawai`i County Council Hilo, Hawaii 96720 Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Communication No. 629, reports as follows: Communication No. 629, transmitted by Mayor William P. Kenoi, dated January 8, 2014, requests review and favorable recommendation of the nomination of Ms. Reiko Ford to the Tax Board of Review. Ms. Ford is a 13-year resident of Hawaii and is currently retired. She is a member of AARP, and serves as an AARP tax aide. She is also a member of Christ Church Episcopal. Mr. Ford states that she is not affiliated with any political party. If confirmed, she will serve a term that expires on December 31, 2015, replacing Mr. Michael D'Amico, who resigned in 2013. Ms. Charmaine Shigemura, Executive Assistant to Mayor Kenoi, came forward and provided background information, expressed the Mayor's support, and requested Council's favorable action of this appointment. Ms. Ford appeared before Your Committee and stated that she is not related to Council Member Ford. Council Member Ford expressed support of the nominee's appointment to the commission. She stated that this is the nominee's second time serving on the County of Hawai`i Tax Board of Review. She is not required to be present at full Council for final confirmation. Pursuant to Section 19-96, Hawai`i County Code,there shall be a Real Property Tax Board of Appeals for the County, consisting of five members, appointed by the mayor and confirmed by the council. Your Committee on Finance is in accord with the purpose and intent of Comm.
