Subject: Testimony for PASSING Bill 113
Aloha County Council,
This is my testimony for the passage of Bill 113 . I SUPPORT the passage of Bill 113 .
I also want to address the "Open Letter to the Community" sent out by the farmers,
ranchers, floral, and nursery growers. They state that they produce more than 80% of the
food and agricultural products grown in Hawaii. Well, do we not import 90% of our food?
So these guys are bragging about supplying the island with 80% of 10%? And if you take
out the floral industry, which is huge, they are probably only supplying maybe 5% of the
food for the island. Instead of bragging, they should be embarrassed that the island is
not self sustaining today. I keep hearing about third and forth generation farmers. Ok,
if you know so much about farming, why are we still importing 90% of our food? It seems
to me that if you are running a successful farming operation for 25 - 50 years or more,
then we should have more food than we know what to do with. Instead, we import 90% of
what we eat. And now they want the People, and the Council, to believe that they know
what is best for farming. If they knew what was best for farming we would not be
importing ANY food and we would be exporting tons and tons of food to the mainland.
Please PASS Bill 113 and keep our island clean of frankenfood.
