I apologize for late testimony. Much Mahalo David Comm. No /q• Ref.To: r/ G Ref. Date FEB 0'4 2014 1 Orchid Isle Nursery .-- 458 Ponahawai St Hilo, HI 96720 Testimony for Bill 185 - Organic Farming I strongly support Bill 185. This bill will be a first in the state, possible nation that a farming practice verses a crop is identified for special incentives. Similar to renewable energy and green technology all have similar incentives where a practice is given special tax and other incentives to help encourage implementation. As both a conventional and organic farmer I can say that Organic and natural farming are truly sustainable and better for the land. This bill also is a carrot verses a stick approach to sustainable agriculture. As a former lawmaker, any measure that will help make this island truly sustainable and self sufficient in food production should be supported. The greatest disaster for our state is not an earthquake or tsunami, it will be when the planes and ships stop coming. Thank you for your consideration and allowing me to testify. 1 ch Aloha David Matsuura
