RESOLUTION NO. 307 1 4
A RESOLUTION URGING THE HAWAII STATE LEGISLATURE TO APPROVE
FUNDING FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF A PERMANENT BUILDING FOR THE
DANIEL K. INOUYE COLLEGE OF PHARMACY.
WHEREAS, the Daniel K. Inouye College of Pharmacy ("College of Pharmacy") was
founded in 2006 and graduated its inaugural class in 2011; and
WHEREAS, the College of Pharmacy is scattered across Hilo in multiple temporary and
rental facilities because it lacks a permanent, central building; and
WHEREAS, the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education will place the College of
Pharmacy on probation if the Hawai`i State Legislature withholds funding for a permanent
building at the University of Hawai`i at Hilo; and
WHEREAS, probation is the first step toward the loss of accreditation and the closing of
the College of Pharmacy; and
WHEREAS, the Legislature alone has the ability to maintain the accreditation status of
the College of Pharmacy by approving funds for the construction of a permanent building in the
2014 legislative session; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that the
Hawai`i State Legislature is urged to approve funding for a permanent building for the Daniel K.
Inouye College of Pharmacy.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature is urged to support funding for the
Daniel K. Inouye College of Pharmacy through House Bill No. 1700, the Governor's
supplemental appropriations budget for the 2013-2015 fiscal biennium.
BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall transmit a copy of this
resolution to the Honorable Governor Neil Abercrombie; the Honorable Senate President Donna
Mercado Kim; the Honorable House Speaker Joseph M. Souki; the Honorable Senator David Y.
Ige; the Honorable Senator Brian T. Taniguchi; the Honorable Representative Sylvia Luke; and
the Honorable Representative Isaac W. Choy.
