Aloha Council!
I support Reso 272 - in this particular instance. Even though the two "Right to Farm" bills in the
legislature did not make the cut, I believe they could be revived next year and that it's good for the
council to be proactive.
The "Right to Farm" bills are boiler plate 'ALEC bills' that have been unleashed across the country by
the Koch Brothers and their 'Reason Foundation', which makes them highly suspect that they are for 'the
good of the people'.
Reso 272 is being touted as a 'homerule' issue and while I agree in this instance, sometimes not having
'homerule' is a good thing, too. I know of several instances where the State Land Use Commission has
come to residents rescue when the county has not done the right thing. However, lately it seems, the
State has been trying to take more powers away from the county.
I think the 'homerule' issue is a double edged sword - it's generally a good idea for residents - but not
always; every issue is different and needs to be judged on its own merit and that's why I support Reso
272.
