RESOLUTION NO. 329 1.4
RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE DEPARTMENT OF RESEARCH AND
DEVELOPMENT TO AWARD FUNDS TO THE HAWAII COUNTY
ECONOMIC OPPORTUNITY COUNCIL
WHEREAS, Chapter 2, Article 25, Section 2-139(a)(3)(A) of the Hawai`i County
Code (2005 Edition as amended) states, Grant awards in excess of$25,000 to nonprofit
organizations shall specifically identify the organization receiving the grant funds and
the purpose for which the grant funds shall be used in an ordinance or resolution.; and
WHEREAS, Chapter 2, Article 25, Section 2-136(5) of the Hawaii County Code
states, "nonprofit organization" means an organization organized for other than profit-
making purposes and which has a current 501(c)3 tax-exemption from the Internal
Revenue Code; and
WHEREAS, the HCEOC which qualifies as a nonprofit organization as defined
above, works to promote economic opportunities in the county of Hawaii; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Research and Development wishes to provide
$113,000 to the Hawaii County Economic Opportunity Council (HCEOC); and
WHEREAS, the grant funds will be used to supplement the creation of a
Transmedia Accelerator Program (TAP), encouraging economic diversification, creating
employment opportunities, and supporting innovation in the field of media production;
and
WHEREAS, the HCEOC will work closely with the other program partners and
provide fiscal monitoring and reporting services; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII, in
accordance with Chapter 2, Article 25, Section 2-139(a)(3)(A) of the Hawaii County
Code, the Department of Research and Development is authorized to provide a grant of
$113,000 to the HCEOC to supplement the creation of a Transmedia Accelerator
Program.
BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk of the County of Hawaii shall
transmit copies of this resolution to the Office of the Mayor, the Finance Department,
and the Department of Research and Development.
