RESOLUTION NO. 326 a 4
A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT
AND FROM THE DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A
DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT FOR THE 2014 HONOKA`A WESTERN WEEK
FESTIVAL.
WHEREAS, Honoka`a Western Week festival is a celebration of paniolo culture that
fosters a true sense of community, tradition, and pride; and
WHEREAS, this annual event has been attended by thousands of Hawai`i Island
residents and visitors and has increased economic tourism for Hawai`i Island by promoting
Honoka`a town as a tourist destination; and
WHEREAS, the Honoka`a Western Week festival will educate and bring awareness of
the rich and diverse cultural resources of Hawai`i Island, making positive contributions to the
quality of life for its residents and visitors; and
WHEREAS, events and activities during the week-long festival include a parade, arts
and crafts, block party, food booths, hula competition, performances, rodeo, historical photo
displays, and paniolo music; and
WHEREAS, the 2014 Honoka`a Western Week festival will take place during the 20-year
commemoration of the closing of the Hamakua Sugar Company and is being organized and
sponsored by the Honoka`a Business Association and the Hawai`i County Department of Parks
and Recreation, Culture Education Division; and
WHEREAS, Contingency Relief funds from Council District 1 will be appropriated to
the Department of Parks and Recreation, Culture Education Division, to help fund the 2014
Honoka`a Western Week festival; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that the
following amount is hereby transferred/appropriated as set forth below:

CREDITED TO:
010.500.5517.02 Department of Parks and Recreation $7,000

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall transmit a copy of this
resolution to the Director of Parks and Recreation and the Director of Finance, and that the
Director of Finance is hereby authorized to make the necessary transfers in accordance with the
terms of this resolution.
