Your Committee on Public Works and Parks and Recreation, to which was referred Bill No. 220,
reports as follows:
Bill No. 220 transmitted by Public Works Director Warren H. W. Lee, via Communication No. 756
dated March 12, 2014, amends the Hawaii County Code, Chapter 24, Article 10, Division 3,
Section 24-275, Schedule 23 (bus stop locations), Subsection (a), Hamakua, to relocate an existing bus
stop on the west side of Pakalana Street.
This amendment is being proposed based on a request by the Hawai`i Police Department to relocate an
existing bus stop away from the covered walkway of Honoka❑a Elementary School. Due to the awning
of the covered walkway, the buses are not able to park completely off the travel way of Pakalana Street,
which causes a safety concern.
There was no discussion on this measure.
Your Committee on Public Works and Parks and Recreation is in accord with the purpose and intent of
Bill No. 220 and recommends its passage on first reading.
