This letter is being written in support of honoring Rose Andrade Correia at 1
the Honoka'a Rodeo Arena. Rose was a successful businesswoman,a loving I
matriarch and generous person who was a beloved member of the Honoka'a i
community.
After her first husband's untimely death on the family ranch, a young widow
and mother of 7 young children, Rose successfully continued the family businesses
of the ranch,slaughterhouse,meat market, restaurant and firewood delivery
service.All of which served Honoka'a town and surrounding areas.
Rose raised her children with strong values and traditions that have
continued to be passed down the generations to her grandchildren and great-
children. One family tradition that is still evident today is the ranching tradition i
perpetuated by the Hawaii Saddle Club Rodeo put on each year in Honoka'a.
Rose Andrade Correia was well known for her generosity. Rose so strongly
believed in the importance of carrying on the ranching tradition of Honoka'a that
she provided the land on which the current Honoka'a County arena is now located.
Her family was instrumental in founding the Hawaii Saddle Club and building the
first arena. Since then,the descendents of Rose Andrade continue to dedicate
themselves to preserving the tradition of ranching in Honoka'a by holding the
Annual Hawaii Saddle Club Rodeo as a benefit to help children who are underserved
to go to college.
We believe that honoring Rose Andrade Correia for her many contributions
to Honoka'a's ranching history is well deserved.
