Aloha Ken, As a resident of North Kohala for 35 years I am opposed to the purchase by the county of
the parcel adjacent to the Banyan trees in Hawi. I am a founding officer of the merchants association,
vice chair of the CDP action committee and a 20 year member of our Lions club. . This purchase has not
been endorsed by any of these groups.
I have started and run 7 businesses in Hawi which has resulted in numerous new jobs for the residents.

The one acre in question fronts on Akoni Pule Hwy and should be retail. While most people will rally to
"save the banyan" this parcel does not include the banyan trees and the area is not used by the farmer's
market. Surety Kohala owns the banyan trees and is very amicable to selling or continued use as a
market.
