Subject: Support National Park'Service Keauhou Aquifer System Ground Water Mgmt Area
Aloha, council members,
I strongly support the National Park Service's petition to designate the Keauhou Aquifer System Ground
Water Management Area as'a way to manage the flow of groundwater in the Kona region. The NPS petition
does not threaten or limit development while it most definitely does help protect the health of our aquifer
which is THE#1 Public Trust Resource. It is crucial (and mandated by the State Constitution)that public
representatives like yourselves help the NPS to carry out its mission to protect the purity and long term
availability of our groundwater for the safety and quality of life of the residents of the Kona region, our state,
and our nation.
Our region depends upon the thoughtful, sustainable use of water for its economic, environmental, cultural
and recreational health—specifics too numerous and hopefully too obvious to list. Suffice it to say that if,
you eat, swim, fish, surf, dive, forage, grow food, surf or breathe—and if your keiki do,too—your life as
well as theirs depend upon the conscious, protective use of our region's limited water supply. Supporting this
petition will help you fulfill your mandate.
I'll be presenting live testimony next week if my work schedule allows it. Meanwhile, I hope that this body will
support the NPS petition without reservation and that those of you who feel the value of it most strongly will
speak loudly and clearly in its support.
Mahalo for helping to protect this island's—and this world's—number one natural asset: water.

Ps Having read Peter Young's presentation, I find it a standard, "creative" PR piece in support of willy-nilly,
no holes barred, unplanned regional development-- unsupported by scientific evidence. I'm curious if
anyone on the council can tell me who Mr Young is representing in his testimony? Is it his personal
thoughts, those of his company (development consultant), or is he representing another or other entities?
